A girl in a wheelchair is unable to participate in a school outing until the teacher decides to take her along

POZYTYWNE HISTORIE

Ten-year-old Ryan has a spinal cord injury that requires him to use a wheelchair. It became a major issue when his school class went camping. When the fourth-graders at Ryan’s American elementary school learned that they would be going on a hike to the waterfalls in Ohio, they were overjoyed. Not only would they get to see a huge waterfall, but they would also hike together for a whole day.

When Shelly, Ryan’s mother, heard about the hike, she decided to take her daughter to the museum on the same day. While the other children enjoyed the adventure, Ryan would do something physically possible for herself. It was then that the teacher at the school decided to leave Ryan’s mother in peace. “He told me, ‘I can carry him, it’s okay…’ He was such a caring person who wanted to make sure that the girl didn’t feel excluded. He made her feel like one of his classmates,” says Shelly, his heartwarming mother.

Although Shelly said it was okay and that she and her daughter could go to the museum instead, Jim took matters into his own hands. It was unthinkable for him to leave little ten-year-old Ryan aside just because she was in a wheelchair. With the help of a large baby carrier, he could lift a little girl.

Jim is back while hiking to the waterfalls. Judging by the photos, they both had a very fun day with Ryan’s classmates. Here’s what Shelley wrote on her Facebook account after their release: “If I haven’t talked enough about my children’s school, read this. Today they are going on a trip to the Ohio Falls. It’s clear that this is not an option for us. I was preparing for an alternative ‘educational day’ with my daughter in a wheelchair until the teacher contacted me and said, ‘I would love to carry her on the trip!’ She is so happy to be a part of it, and it warms my heart.

These wonderful people need to be shown to the world to inspire others.
