Child abuse occurs when a parent or guardian, whether through their action or failure to act, causes injury, death, emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child. There are many forms of child abuse, including neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation and emotional abuse.
DREAMCATCHERS FOR ABUSED CHILDREN, INC. is an official 501(c)3 nonprofit organization against child abuse and neglect. Their mission is “to educate the public about all aspects of child abuse, such as symptoms, intervention, prevention, statistics, reporting and to help victims find the appropriate resources needed to achieve to a full recovery.”
Recently, the organization shared a letter from one of the children who was abused by both of his parents who were heavy alcoholics. It’s heartbreaking to truly see a child who never knew true love and joy from their birth parents. All this boy saw was abuse, neglect and starvation. Some people are monsters…
One of the neighbors saw that something terrible was happening in a neighboring house and took pity on the little boy who was in the house. He decides to alert child protection services.
When the police arrived, they took the boy to the organization Dreamcatchers for Abused Children who made sure these horrible things never happened to the child.
When the organization found a perfect and suitable family for the child, I had tears in my eyes seeing what he wrote on a piece of paper.
This boy’s wish is that all he wants are normal things… here’s what he wrote:
“Things I want in my family:
I want food and water.
Do not hit me.
A house with running water and lights.
I want love.
Mom and Dad don’t fight.
I don’t want drugs.
Don’t kill my pets.
Help at school.
Nice clean clothes.
No lice. No bugs in the house.
Clean house.
Clean bed with blankets.
Don’t sell my toys.
Treated fairly.
Don’t get drunk.
Television in the house.
Let me keep my school stuff.
Nice shoes.
My own comb soap. Beautiful house and safe and heated coat.
Toothbrush. »
Reading this now, you probably have everything this little boy wants. The takeaway from this: NEVER take anything for granted. The life you have now is someone’s wish list.
