When I saw this apartment I really wanted to share photos with you.
My own memories immediately flooded me – during my first business trip to Sweden (oh, what an interesting time in my life!) I was taken to a similar building.
It was the mid-noughties. My colleagues said at the time that the cost of apartments in this tower was exorbitant – the price per square meter was astronomically high.
All wealthy people wanted to touch history and live in an unusual place.
I later learned that renovating water towers is not uncommon.
They are used to make apartments, restaurants, hotels and even observatories.
For example, in the Tyumen region, where I lived for a few years, some water towers have found a new interesting purpose – in one (in the city center) there is now a children’s creative club, in another (in the suburbs) there is a private observatory, where you can watch the stars at night for a small fee.
Let’s go back to our current apartment. It is located in an old water tower from 1912 in a suburb of Stockholm.
The tower provided water to residents of the surrounding neighborhoods until 1959, when it was closed and preserved.
In the 1980s the building was converted into a residential building.
There are a total of five apartments here, from which you have a fantastic view of the surrounding area (you can see the river from some of the windows).
The tower height is 28 meters.
The apartment we are talking about today is on the fourth floor.
There is a garden and several courtyards on the property where residents can (if they wish) grow vegetables and herbs.”
